چکیده
To the Editor Reply: We wish to thank Granata et al for their letter commenting on our article on hypertrophy of peripheral nerves in chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP) that was detected by ultrasonography. We demonstrated a useful case which exemplifies the detection of segmental lesions of the peripheral nerves in CIDP by ultrasonography. We think that ultrasonography of the peripheral nerves may facilitate the routine neurophysiological examination employing the inching method, as Dr. Granata suggested. It can be applied to the diagnosis of similar diseases in peripheral nerves and for evaluation of the effect of medication. Further investigations with a much larger number of cases are needed.

Multiple Sites Ultrasonography of Peripheral Nerves in Differentiating Charcot–Marie–Tooth Type 1A from Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyradiculoneuropathy
INTRODUCTION Multiple sites measurement of cross-sectional areas (CSA) by ultrasound was performed to differentiate Charcot-Marie-Tooth type 1A (CMT1A) and chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP). METHODS Nine patients with CMT1A, 28 patients with CIDP, and 14 healthy controls (HC) were recruited prospectively. Consecutive ultrasonography scanning was performed from w...
متن کاملLESSON OF THE MONTH Hypertrophy of multiple cranial nerves and spinal roots in chronic inflammatory demyelinating neuropathy
Hereditary motor and sensory neuropathy (HMSN) types I and III and chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP) in developed countries are the most frequent causes of enlargement of peripheral nerves, “hypertrophic neuropathy”, with clinically palpable thickened nerves, visible on MRI. They may even be the cause of spinal cord compression. 8 We report on a patient who develo...

Objective. This cross-sectional study analyzes the pattern of ultrasound peripheral nerve alterations in patients with chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP) and multifocal motor neuropathy (MMN) at different stages of functional disability. Material and Methods. 22 CIDP and 10 MMN patients and a group of 70 healthy controls were evaluated with an ultrasound scan of th...

Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy, or chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) is an acquired immune-mediated inflammatory disorder at the peripheral nervous system, in which the progression is chronic and also remission relapse. In most cases, it is also associated with cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) protein-cell separation. Electrophysiologically, the periph...
